| Why Can't I Change This User's Password? |
If you can't modify the password of a user whose password is authenticated by Open Directory, or if you can't modify a user account to use Open Directory authentication, one of two things might be wrong. (1) Check to make sure that you're authenticated as that particular directory's administrator. (2) Your administrator user account might not be configured for Open Directory authentication. If you've upgraded from an earlier version of Mac OS X Server, the account might have a crypt or shadow password rather than an Open Directory password.

“Tim over at the Mac Guys + has been a great IT consultant for us. He's very knowledgable about all things Mac and even PCs. Tim never automatically upgrades or suggests something new until he's had to learn about it and test it. He always has our best interests in mind and likes to make sure we are aware of our options when it's time to upgrade. I'll hire The Mac Guys again when given the chance.”
