Inspect Before You Install E-mail
When you authenticate as an administrator and then launch an installation, you essentially are giving the installation free rein over your Mac. It can install any item in any location or perform any task as dictated by the creator of the installation package. A poorly made installation package could destroy the software on your Mac, and a malicious installation package could perform an action that puts your personal information at risk or even violates the law. Because of the potential for mayhem from a bad installation package, you should always inspect unfamiliar installation packages before you deploy them. "Your manual backups saved our Job Printing History File. Yesterday we had a power bump and our Filemaker Server went down. The Job Printing History database was damaged and had just 8 files in it when it came back up. I went to your manual backups to recover the file and it was there safe and sound."
